Arkema is pleased to announce the availability in Europe of Forane® 449A (XP40) which offers near drop-in compatibility with R-404A/507A designed equipment and lubricants in the refrigeration market.

To meet the growing demand for low global warming potential refrigerants in Europe, Arkema has signed an agreement with the Chemours Company for Forane® 449A (XP40). Forane® 449A (XP40) is a non-ozone depleting, low global warming potential (GWP), hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO)-based refrigerant with an optimal balance of properties to replace R-404A/507A or R-407 in low and medium temperature commercial and industrial application.

With this blend of HFO (1234yf) and HFC fluorinated gases, Arkema will continue to support its customers in the refrigeration market in Europe by offering them a low-GWP solution for commercial applications in such as supermarkets (centralized racks, distributed systems, walk-in coolers/freezers), food service and cold storage, and industrial units for the chemical, food processing, pharmaceutical industries.

Forane® 449A (XP40) is suitable for new installations, as well as for the retrofit of existing systems. With a GWP of 1282 (AR5) or 1397 (AR4) and nonflammable classification, it offers a safe, low GWP solution which improves energy efficiency in both low and medium temperature refrigeration racks. Extensively tested in the industry, Forane® 449A (XP40) is the material of choice for the European industry.

With this announcement, Arkema expands its portfolio of new low GWP fluorinated gas solutions and shows its continuing commitment to develop sustainable and efficient refrigerant options.
