On the occasion of the 28th International Automobile Festival, Peugeot won the award for the best concept car with Onyx. Altuglas® ShieldUp Innovation is an integral part of this project.

Peugeot Onyx is a futuristic hybrid sports car. Combining the latest technology in acrylic glass and the vehicle of the future was logical. Altuglas International, a subsidiary of Arkema group has developed the perfect smoke colour glazing sheet for this concept car. The roof of the vehicle combines strength and aesthetics with the new nanostructured acrylic sheet developed by researchers of the GRL (Groupement de recherche de Lacq).

Besides the roof in Altuglas® ShieldUp, lightweight and resistant, the vehicle combines carbon fiber and pure copper, it has a retractable spoiler, and its interior is made of felt and recycled paper. The concept is also available in a Concept Bike and Scooter.

Find out more about PMMA sheets:
Known as “acrylic glass”, this polymer (polymethylmethacrylate) has exceptional optical properties, superior to that of glass. These properties have lead it to become the material of choice across numerous industries, from the automotive industry to construction.

Find out more about nanostructured sheets:
Altuglas® ShieldUp acrylic sheet (polymethylmethacrylate) combines two components PMMA and Elastomer, structured at the nanoscale, allowing for complete transparency while optimizing other properties such as mechanical and chemical resistance. Nanostructuring means we can structure materials on the scale of a billionth of a meter. Like a knitted mesh, the material is organised in a particular pattern that repeats itself infinitely, giving objects fully mastered properties and improved performance.
