A fluorine atom's unique properties make it a desirable addition to active compounds biologically. The existing Foranext® product range and Arkema’s development capabilities to produce customized molecules help bring fluorine-bearing groups, where they are needed.

Difluorocompounds, bearing compound -CHF2 or –CClF2, can add desired functionality to biologically active ingredients. Arkema’s portfolio includes Chlorodifluoromethane (R22), 1-Chloro-1,1-difluoroethane (R142b), and others that can be used as building blocks in advanced synthesis of various fine chemicals requiring –CF2 end groups.

Trifluorocompounds, bearing -CF3, are a widely used fluorine group in biologically active ingredients, such as agrochemicals.  Arkema’s portfolio includes Boron trifluoride (BF3) and Trifluoromethyl bromide (BTFM; CF3Br), which are versatile trifluoromethylation reagents and are typical building blocks for industrial scale synthesis.
