Forane® Refrigerants Building and Facility Air Conditioning
|
For centrifugal and screw chiller applications; CFC-11, CFC-12 and HCFC-22 were used in the past as the primary refrigerant fluids. Due to the mandated phaseout of CFCs and upcoming phaseout of R22, Forane® 134a and 123 are now being used as replacements in chiller applications. These refrigerants are currently being used effectively for new and retrofitted systems, providing safe and efficient cooling these types of applications.

Existing Systems
Most R-12 systems may be converted to Forane® 134a with some modification due to the close characteristics of these two refrigerants. Conversion to Forane® 134a requires a change of lubrication oil and several modifications to the system. Technicians should check with the equipment manufacturer before attempting the conversion.
Product Advantages
Forane® 134a and 123 provide a safe, efficient and environmentally preferable alternative to R22, R12 and R11. Forane® 134a and 123 may be purchased from Arkema for bulk needs or through one of Arkema’s wholesalers for packaged requirements.
